Abstract
Primary aldosteronism, one of the surgically correctable causes of hypertension, is a syndrome due to excessive secretion of aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. Hypertension, hypokalemia and excessive production of aldosterone were the original
features of the syndrome.
A case of primary aldosteronism is presented with a brief review of literatures.
This female, 52 year-old patient complained of chest pain, generalized weakness and hypertension. The physical and laboratory examination revealed blood pressured 100/300 mmHg, serum potassium concentration 1.77 mEq/1, plasma renin activity
0.37ng/ml/hr(erect), serum aldosterone 1130.40pg/ml(erect).
At right subcostal approach a well defined adenoma of the right adrenal was discovered and the gland was removed. Bright yellowish, round adenoma measured 1.8¡¿1.8¡¿1.5 cm.
Postoperatvely, patients has felt well. The patient remained normotensive and normokalemic conditions. Serum aldosterone value was returned to normal level.
